Plans are underway by the Rotary Clubs of the Sunshine Coast exploring the idea of starting a multi day program mirroring the Prince George model but altering it to suit the needs of the high school students and the partner/sponsors who will be delivering the program. More information as it becomes available.
The original health care program in Prince George exposes high school youth to what are typically roles that often have face-to-face contact with patients for the purpose of diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care. Some clinical professions are behind-the-scenes, such as laboratory professionals whose work supports diagnosis and treatment
The professions explored with hands on experiences where direct patient care is normally provided cover a wide range from physician, nursing, ,psychiatry, chemistry, biology, to allied professionals including medical technologist, medical lab technicians, physio and occupational therapy,, respiratory therapy, dietitics, radiography, sonography, radiography and pharmacy.
The launch of a 2nd program will be held in Terrace this May, 2023. Open to grade 10 and 11 students from both Terrace and Kitimat.
