Prince George - May 6 -9, 2019 (travel May 5 and 10, 2019)

REGISTRATION OVERVIEW

There are two intake groups of students who will make up the seats available in 2019.

  1. The first group of 20 seats is supported by Rotary Clubs or other community sponsors in District 5040 and the Peace River region of British Columbia.  Registrations from Rotary Clubs outside the designated boundries listed above but in British Columbia will be accepted if space allows. To allow more clubs to participate each club will only be able to reserve one seat. Clubs must submit a registration form and fee to secure a seat. Apply for a reservation in the 2019  Adventure Program by submitting the reservation form with the $450.00 fee by the deadline date Dec 14, 2018. (Only the first 20 clubs can be accepted). Wait for the email confirmation of acceptance of your application. Upon acceptance of your application, proceed with the selection of the student. Applications will be accepted starting August 1, 2018 and will close once the 20 seats are filled or December 15, 2018 which ever comes first. In the event that your application to apply is received after the allotted seats are taken, the application will be put on a wait list. This list will be held until December 15, 2018.
  2. The second group of  students is chosen through a rigorous interview process within SD57 - Prince George. Information regarding the application and interview process will be distributed through the high schools in School District 57 beginning February 1, 2019. The deadline for student applications must be returned to their school on or before February 22, 2019.  Students will be notified and interviews will take place in early March, 2019.

HOW DOES A SPONSOR GROUP REGISTER AND WHAT ARE THEY RESPONSIBLE FOR ?

  1. Applications will be accepted starting August 1, 2018 and will close once the 20 seats are filled or December 14, 2018 which ever comes first.
  2. Email info@adventuresinhealthcare.com for a Rotary Club application form or download from this site as of August 1, 2018.
  3. Fill out the form provided and mail it with the registration fee. Please be aware that the student naming deadline is not critical in the fall of 2018, just the club registration.
  4. Name of student to be sponsored by your club must be provided to the Rotary Club of Prince George, Yellowhead by January 31, 2019.  Generally clubs search for students in December or January. All required forms for the nominated student will be supplied to you with notification of acceptance.
  5. The sponsoring organization is responsible for paying the registration fee and transportation costs from the student's home to Prince George and return.

STUDENT INFORMATION

Once the initial student registration and parents waiver, etc. are returned by the sponsoring club we will be in contact with them immediately by the email provided to confirm receipt.  From that time forward all communication will go directly to the student and parents(provided there are multiple emails provided). There will be a more detailed application form sent to them to complete and return directly to Adventures in Health Care.

STUDENT TRANSPORTATION

The 2019 program will expect all youth to be in Prince George  by 6:00 p.m.  May 5 for orientation which includes registration and dinner.

The program will finish Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 8:00 p.m.

The program sees more Rotary clubs from further afield participating. One of the biggest organizing challenges is to ensure that students arrive and depart in a timely manner, meeting the needs of not only the students but the parents that have to drop them off and pick them up. Yellowhead Rotary understands that although the Adventures program is important, so is school and family.

The assumption is that over 500 kilometres the students will travel by air. Suggested air flights are available for download here.

LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT STUDENT

Our club struggled for years literally hunting for students before we connected with our school district a few years ago. The Career Programs staff at School District 57 worked with us to develop a program to market and interview prospective applicants. Our numbers exploded from 5 to over fifty, and ALL were great applications. If you would like to learn more about how to reach your youth, we can help.
