Health care is the professional practice of caring – it embodies the physical, psychological, social, environmental, and spiritual needs of individuals, families, groups, and whole communities. If you are a high school student, high school graduate or someone considering a new career in an environment that is both challenging, supportive, dynamic, and positive, health care may be the answer for you. Our region provides opportunities for all health care professionals in urban, rural, and remote settings to appeal to an individual’s career goals.

As a career develops, the way work is accomplished will change and for many, new areas of interest will emerge. Many successful careers blend various types of work experience and post-secondary training options to prepare for new opportunities. 

Over the next ten years, 70% of all new jobs will require more than high school education. Of all new jobs created, over one half will require workers with career, technical, trades/apprenticeship or vocational skills. One educational trend that is emerging is combining University and college education and training. Many of the larger colleges report that up to 30% of their students already have university degrees. In these cases, students are seeking to add practical training to their theoretical background.

The focus on physician recruitment in todays program is to illustrate not only the continual need for more medical doctors but also to explore the variety of physicians. In rural communities it has always been a challenge to attract health care workers, regardless of profession.  There is a strong demand across the board for all  professionals that are in the business of healing. 

Medicine bridges the gap between science and society. Indeed, the application of scientific knowledge to human health is a crucial aspect of clinical practice. Doctors are one important agent through which that scientific understanding is expressed. 

Your first point of contact with the health care system, family doctors are experts in diagnosing and treating the whole person. They care for patients in the office, the hospital, as well as other health care facilities and the patient’s home. 

Family doctors advocate for you and work with specialists and other health care professionals to provide patient-centered care. They also work with you to prevent illness and promote healthy living. 

Family doctors study family medicine, a certified medical specialty, and are trained to deal with any health problem. Family doctors also play an increasingly important role in the early identification of disease.
