SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES

Sciences provides high quality, diverse and innovative approaches to learning and research through the use of a holistic view of health, informed by interactions among researchers, practitioners and community  members.

DAY THREE

The  third day of visiting partner agencies. Like yesterday, it is all about participating in all the activities.

PSYCHOLOGY

Psychology is the study of behaviour, feelings and thinking. Psychologists study the biopsychosocial and developmental mechanisms and processes that regulate the behaviour of individuals.

This session delves into the brain, how it works and thinks and how to fool it.

For some the most interesting part of this study period is the dissection lab.

LEARNING MORE ABOUT THE MEDICAL PROFESSION

A medical doctor is a health professional who diagnoses and treats illness through medical care. Doctors provide a range of care across different specialties, including family medicine, surgery, internal medicine, psychiatry and more.

EDUCATION

The pathway to becoming a licensed doctor takes at least 9 years. Individuals must first complete at least 90 credits of an undergraduate bachelor program prior to entering a four-year medical degree (MD) program. This is then followed by two to five years of residency training (depending on specialty).

NORTHERN PATHWAYS TO MEDICINE BURSARY

EDITORS NOTE * READ THIS STUFF AND MEMORIZE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE

The NMP has developed the Northern Pathways to Medicine Program (NP2M) for eligible students from under-represented populations whose long-term goal is admission to the NMP or other health professions programs in northern BC. The program consists of three main elements which aim to support the recipient to be competitive for application to medical school: 1) a longitudinal pre-medical enrichment program alongside their undergraduate degree, 2) formal mentorship from faculty of the NMP and UNBC, and 3) financial support.

END OF DAY THREE

NOW IS THE TIME TO REVIEW AND COMPLETE QUIZZES # 10, 11 AND 12  AS WELL AS THE LABS
