Year after year during student interviews we hear the same lament......, "I know what I want to study, but I just don`t know what I want to do". If that sounds like you, this is where you belong. It is about exploring in places you haven`t been before (of course we are talking figuratively).
THE ARE FOUR COMPONENTS TO THIS YEARS PROGRAM
PART ONE - EXPLORING ADVENTURES IN HEALTH CARE
The core program consists of videos from previous events and hyperlinks to more specific career information, augmented with pertinent information about each day. You are invited to start this program by viewing the video below, participate in the quiz and follow the links to the next pages.
There is a brief quiz following some segments which will encourage you to look back and recall what you have just watched and read....its called retention. The quiz is not a pass or fail, its purposes is....you guessed it, retention. But you are encouraged to retake each quiz if you are not happy with the ,...remember its about learning. There is no fail, just lack of knowing. Upon completion of the four elements of the program( participating in all the quizzes and the student survey) a certificate will be awarded.
PART TWO - LABORATORY SAFETY TRAINING
In previous years all students who were to attend the program had to take a Lab Safety course on line. It was essential as students were going to be working in the University lab without direct monitoring by instructors. Although that is not the case with the ONLINE program, we thought it essential to continue the tradition. It is a skill set that should be learned as soon as possible. U.N.B.C. has developed the program and with the support of Anne Sommerfeld, Director, Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology it will be available to all 48 who were set to attend this years program AND register following the instructions in the next sentence.
PART THREE - ERADICATION OF A DISEASE - A CASE STUDY
The third component is a seven part video series on a timely subject - "Global Eradication of a Disease" ,but not COVID19 !!
PART FOUR - VIOLIN MD
It will involve close up and personal days in the life of a Canadian medical resident. Following her through her daily activities in different wards in the hospital while interacting with the rest of her team and varying patient scenarios....a real eye opener.
This program is also designed as a resource for you to refer to for information as your move forward in high school.
Start the Adventure by watching the video below the registration form for a students perspective of the event from 2018.
